Fifty-six years on Royalton Road. Same address since 1969. When Carl Seidel and Dan Skop opened the shop, the moon landing hadn't happened yet. Three months later, Neil Armstrong stepped off the ladder of the Apollo Lunar Module. Ledgewood's first chair had been turning for ninety days.
The shop has been open every year since. Same building. Same address. Different barbers, but the standard never moved.
Two barbers, one storefront on Royalton Road in Strongsville, Ohio. Neil Armstrong wouldn't walk on the moon for another four months. The first chair turned at 17100 Royalton, the same address it still operates from today. Carl's signature greeting from behind the chair: "Would you like to be next?" Strongsville grew up around the place. Fathers brought sons. Those sons grew up and brought their own.
Jim took the shop into its next chapter. Forty-plus years of experience by the time he was running things, long enough to have seen every variation of every haircut come around twice. Jim still works the chair when he wants to. Ask him about anything: music, golf, grandkids.
Matt and Hank co-own the shop now, with seven additional barbers behind the chairs: Jim Tortorici, Marcie Spicel, Ben Gostlin, Will Dillon, Brandy Harkless, Jason Sammons, and Tonya. Combined experience on the floor: over 100 years. The standard hasn't moved. The chairs haven't moved. The Royalton Road address is the same address it's been since 1969.
The standard Carl and Dan set in 1969 was simple. Hard work. Consistent cuts. A shop people could count on. Five decades and five names on the door later, every barber on the floor was trained inside that standard. New techniques, new tools, new clipper guards, new beard products, new straight-razor blades. Same standard.
Walk in. Sit down. Get cut. Pay. Leave. The way it's worked since the moon landing, the way it'll work fifty years from now.
